There certainly is much less mess, but it's not completely mess free! I like that it holds enough food to last a few days. It’s easy to pull out the chaff tray and slide back in, and its eSy to load seed. The opening for the birds to access the seed is small. I use it for my finches. I have a cockatiel who is small enough to use it. I gave it 4 stars because the feeder is mounted in an open cage door, and from the top of the feeder only. This means the bottom of the feeder is not secure and can slide right or left, leaving a gap big enough for my finches to escape. The gap would not be large enough for a cockatiel, but certainly a finch. I attached spring-loaded clips to the cage, one on each side at the lower portion of the feeder, to keep it from sliding.

    we really like it and our finches finally took to it and they like it too. the only problem is that the washer cracked when we were making it fit to the cage. can you maybe send us a couple so that the cracked one won't be in the cage.

    Just arrived! So excited to get this installed. Rehomed 9 canaries and have been filling food silos daily. This will greatly improve function and almost alleviate "hands in the cage", as it fills from outside the cage! It arrived bubble wrapped, then wrapped in more padding and in its own shipping box. Well done! It is well constructed, sturdy, and will probably outlast these birds! We shall see how the hulls separate and drop into removable waste container underneath. Looking at construction, small opening for head, I believe this will stop the wasteful scatter that they like to do. +++++ Happy bird mom!

    Update - This feeder has been on my cage now for over a month and still, my birds will not touch it! The hole they have to stick their heads through to feed is tiny and I am assuming that is why they will not feed from it. A waste of money! .......This feeder has been a problem from the beginning. Difficult to attach to my cage and my birds do not use it...at all! It has been attached to my cage now for three weeks and the birds do not touch it! I am assuming it is because of the tiny hole they have to put their head through to feed!

    The instructions for assembly of this product were low quality, black & white photos (not illustrations) that were hard to see and follow. They also neglect to provide the instructions for assembly of the drawer and the perch.

    You will probably need a drill and a small drill bit to drill pilot holes in the perch, as it does not come ready to install. After I finally got the whole thing assembled, one of the "hinges" for the lid broke. Thankfully, the lid isn't that important to me.

    It is also quite a heavy piece, so the weight throws my hanging cage off balance and now I have to find something to off set it.

    I like the idea of this product (eliminates seed mess, holds more food), but I definitely don't feel that it is worth the price I paid...

    Maybe it's LESS mess. It took a while for my bird to accept sticking his head into the feeder. You can only let the seed drawer get about half full or it starts to drop on the floor. My bird would only eat the very top layer of food in his cup, so I like that he eats from the bottom with this feeder. We waste a lot less food this way. I wasn't able to figure out how to install the entire feeder inside the cage.

    I was very skeptical due to price. Then when I received it, I was disappointed due to it being too small for the cage. After it sat on the counter a few days, I decided to try it by setting it in the bottom of the cage. WOW! This does what it was designed to do, no mess. The empty shells fall to the bottom as designed and no more mess on the floor. It is well made and has really made a difference with no more seed all over the floor. The price for the first one was more than when I ordered a second one, so I am not happy that I paid a higher price for the first one within a few weeks time and that is the reason for 4 stars. Great product, but size is for true parakeet/budgie type cages. This item is to small for flight cage doors, you will have to set it on the bottom. Regardless where you put it, it does work very well.

    We're super happy with this. Install was easy. It really has worked well to reduce waste and mess. There's still a little bit of seed/hulls that spill, but only a very minor amount. Can't even describe how much better this is than the feeder "bowl" that came with the cage.
    If I were to suggest a slight change,it might be to make it a half inch wider, but honestly there's no real need to do so. Super happy with this.
